It's beginning to look like Christmas

So I'm one of the ones that put up Christmas decorations early. Now let me explain because I did not do this last year. I needed the pick me up due to crunch time with this last semester of college. To me the holidays are meant gathering with family and friends and just enjoying that time together. Therefore, I saw no reason to wait on the tree. But I will tell you this I WILL NOT be shopping on Thanksgiving day or Black Friday. I will be spending time stuffing my face and enjoying the time with my family.

Anyway, on with the tutorial!

So as the hubby and I were bringing the tree out I remembered we still do not have a proper tree skirt. Last year we used left over white fabric from our wedding. We threw that away due to finding little mice several months ago.

I went to Jo-Ann's Fabric and looked around. I REFUSE to pay $70 for a store bought skirt. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Jo-Ann's but I'm just a tight wad. I did however buy about a yard and a half of pretty red no-pill fleece. I came home and cut it along the fold then I found a Christmas blanket that we received last year. You can find some at your local Wal-Mart or Dollar store. I just threw them under the tree and arranged them to my liking. I paid around $15 in the end!

Here are the end results:

And, of course, a close up:

It will look even better once I get presents under it!

Happy Crafting!

Staying Warm

Today I thought I would share one of my go-to cold weather styles. Let me start by saying, I've never been considered fashionable. I wear what is comfortable. I don't feel the need to buy the top brands. Shucks, one of my favorite places to shop is Goodwill. Consignment shops are #2 on the shopping list. I love the thrill of finding awesome pieces for under $10.

Todays Outfit:

Sweater: Goodwill $3
Jeans: Pacsun Hand-Me-Downs
Boots: Amazon $25
Boot Cuffs: Goodwill (I cut the sleeves off a sweater)
Scarf: Handmade Pattern Here

So like I said, comfort is key to all my outfits. Do be afraid to do a little digging in your local Goodwill and PLEASE, go donate your clothes!

Fun Fact Friday

Who doesn't love Fun Fact Friday! So here is a fun fact that you might not know about me!

I love living in the country, but sometimes my heart longs to spend time in the city. I'd like to see NYC, New Orleans, and Chicago someday, but I'll settle for visits to D.C. until then.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the trip.

There is one thing that D.C. and home have in common: SQUIRRELS! The only difference is D.C. squirrels are a lot bigger and you can walk right up to them.

Everyone should visit our nation's capital at some point in their life - it's an experience that words can't describe.

Well That's a First

Nothing makes me happier than a big ol' RC Cola! But every time I have one in hand people always ask "Where is your Moon Pie?"  I always answer, "Never had one."
Well today I had my first Moon Pie and I wasn't that impressed. I don't know what all the fuss was about. But now I can mark that off the list.

Feel free to share any of your firsts!

Pumpkin Raisin Muffin

So I have a confession.....I'm not a good cook! There I said it. I can do the basics and that is it! Luckily for me I stumbled upon this lovely, and super easy, recipe! You will never guess where I found it. Wal-Mart sales paper! Of all places right?

Pumpkin Raisin Muffin:

Ingredients:
  • 1 Package of Spice Cake
  • 1 15oz. 100% Pure Pumpkin
  • 3 Lg. Eggs
  • ½ cup of water
  • 1 cup raisins (or as many as you like)

Preheat to 375°

Combine cake mix, pumpkin, eggs and water and mix until moistened. Stir in raisins. Pour into prepared muffin pan.

Bake for 18-22 minutes or until done. Let cool and store in a closed container.

Enjoy!

Warm and Cozy Scarf

Every year I get on a scarf kick. I’ll find a pattern I love, make enough until I’m tired of that pattern, then move on to the next.  I know it’s a tad early to be making scarfs considering we are still having days where the temperature reaches 90, but I can’t help but to share this one now! If you are like me, you love giving homemade christmas gifts. (And you know that list of people can get long).
This is the pattern I used (I did NOT come up with this pattern on my own, it belongs to this fellow blogger).  I absolutely loooove it! There is a video along with it to help you.
Here’s how mine turned out:

I did change the pattern up some. Instead of having 10 repeats, I made 14. It has approximately 40 rows.
This is the beauty of making this yourself. It’s yours to make it however you like.

Happy Crocheting!

Crochet Cross-Body

I have recently got a TON of compliments on these bags. They are so simple to make.

What you will need:
  • Yarn (I used Red Heart)
  • Scissors
  • Crochet hook
  • Yarn Needle (optional)

Purse:
Chain 24, or as many as you like. This will be the width of your purse.

Turn and in the second chain from the hook Half Double Crochet. Half Double Crochet in every stitch.

Instead of chaining and turning like most work, Half Double Crochet in the bottom of your chain.

I worked my tail into my work.
Continue to crochet in rounds.
To do two-toned just tie off with one color and pick up there with the new color.
Just keep working until you make the purse as tall as you want it.

Strap:
Chain 12 or more depending on how wide you want the strap.
Fold your chain in half making sure it isn’t twisted and slip stitch, creating a circle.
Now start Half-Double crocheting in every stitch again.
Flip it inside out so the front of the stitch shows.
Keep crocheting until you have made the strap as long as you want it. REMEMBER: stretch the strap out as you go. There will be weight in your purse causing it to stretch out anyway. You could end up with the purse lower than you like.
Now just sew your strap into the inside of your purse.
TA-DA! You now have a cute purse!

Happy Crocheting!
